In a bizarre partnership that defies conventional forecasts, the game developer has announced an digital partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, providing no-cost extra story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Questline Disclosed

According to the formal release, "A mysterious confrontation draws characters Naoe and Yasuke into a original quest, where whispers of forbidden practices and terrifying metamorphoses resonate through the shadows." The plot features a "unusually garbed woman named Ada" who tasks the characters with traveling into the Crystal Cave—a important location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her companion from a hidden cult.

The adventure focuses on "peculiar experiments and a fearsome foe" and is available to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Iconic Locations and Changes

The preview highlights the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was previously where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through ages. The trailer finishes with a striking sequence showing a character, likely the captive, changing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Rewards and Bonus Features

Players who successfully complete the adventure will receive an unique katana alongside several objects secreted throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also includes in-store Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

Third Free Story Update

This patch also brings the game's third free story addition, titled "The Enigma." This playful mission pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature abilities: Naoe debuts a theatrical version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns subduing stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "A Puzzlement" also features a original environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.

The series formerly featured a 2020 cross-promotional story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga.
